Austin Fourth of July 2012: protection
Such a great story! Five of us with our tripods, calf deep in to lake vying for these shots! And I just walked home from the park (about 3 miles!)! Yawn! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (More, tomorrow)
Next morning> Gotta start getting ready for work... I battled with myself all day, do I go, do I stay inside in the AC?! I prepped/planned the whole trip knowing I could decide to go at a last brave (stupid!) minute! I DID!!!!
There would be crazy traffic and $$$ to park and I have a city bus right near my apartment. It was 97 degrees when I walked out for the bus!!!
But right from the get go this trip was going to be great fun! Three gentleman at the bus stop (one sporting a Nikon camera also, my same D80!) were as fun loving as could be!
I get on the bus and 2 Teachers from the Austin Challenge School I had just worked at were on the bus and one son that had been in my aftercare group! That's what I call synchronicity (I was supposed to be there!). That and also that I was living in a place where i was already starting to bump in to people I knew! (I love that!) The bus was a NYC sardine bus/subway at rush hour experience! More fun!!!
I get out with most everyone else and it was a total rush down there!!! Spider man was driving one of those bike taxis!!! People were everywhere, vendors, picnickers, what a place for people watching (shooting/camera) Everyone was so happy! There were balloons, kits, footballs, strollers, dogs!!!! Family bliss!
Now it was my time to find the right view to shoot fireworks and have the Austin skyline behind me! 3 fellows in tripods were set up where I thought the cans had been set up to shoot. One of the young men was from Scotland!
Lots of nice people walked by and chatted with me. I met a flickr gal too. A great couple from Boston (some of my old stomping grounds). How fun was this!
Then a young gentleman comes over and tells us photographers that we are not in a good place and he explains the cans are farther down the trail. Four of us end up moving. As we walk we finally come to a place where shore side trees aren't blocking but more importantly a photographer is standing IN the river with his tripod! SWEET!!!! Don't think i didn't join him, I DID! Five of us ended up in the water and about 5-6 ended up behind up on the banks. This made the waiting so much more fun!
I had every goofy thing happen to me where my equipment was concerned. Don't even want to admit to half of, it was probably all my fault! ;P
I hope all the photographers around me got great shots! I was lucky to get this one!!!! ;)
