College Chapel, Queens' College, Cambridge
April saw the Northampton U3A group on an outing to Cambridge. We had a guided tour around the colleges by a Blue Badge Guide. The weather was incredible for April, as can be seen in the photographs. Another wonderful day out.
The Chapel was designed by George F Bodley and consecrated in 1891. Nave ceiling
Queens’ College was founded in 1448 by Queen Margaret of Anjou, emulating her husband, King Henry VI, who founded King’s College. The president of the College, Andrew Dockett, later secured the patronage of Elizabeth Woodville, Queen of Edward IV. Her re-founding of the College in 1475 accounts for the double allegiance, and plural spelling of Queens’. The current Patroness of the College is our present Queen, Elizabeth.
