In the Romantic Shadow. The Casa del Rey Moro, Ronda, Andalusia. Spain (Explored)

Mary, thank you very much for all your precious warm attention and big shining heart!

Yesterday I spent whole day again in Ronda (Andalusia, Spain) and came second time to the The Casa del Rey Moro. Its to some extent a fraud, since the house was never the home of the Moorish King. It was built in the 18th Century, when Moorish Spain was already a distant memory. Its apparently Moorish gardens are even more recent, having been designed by the French landscape gardener, Jean Claude Forestier, in 1912. But the house does incorporate one genuine and important relic of Ronda's Moorish occupation the so-called Water Mine.

This place is full of mystery and they have the steps down to the water inside the high rock. The Water Mine, a dark and scary descent to the Islamic era fortress carved into the gorge below the Casa del Rey Moro. Known as the Water Mine because for hundreds of years it operated as the only source of water into the city, with slaves chained to the steps to pass water bags upwards.
