Early Morning Star Trails above the Matterhorn

    Newer Older

My first time ever shooting star trails - had to face south to get the Matterhorn, this was 30min shot from 430 - 500 am (sunrise was at 6am) - there are a couple brilliant ones in the sky and if you look closely several very very faint ones....

Our hotel had the perfect view of the mountain, so set up camera on tripod and composed and focused during the daylight, then played the waiting game for the clouds to go away enough, opened the window and spent 3am-5am attempting some shots, figuring out settings, etc. This was the result I was happiest with of my three long exposure shots, though it was really getting too bright outside to do these - still I liked the brilliance of the mountain against the sky when I converted to black and white....

    Long exposure noise reduction on
ISO 200 f/8 SS 30' (in bulb mode using cabled shutter release)

I love the shot. Have yet to work on these types of photos. I applaud you for making the efforts to create this photo.
It is a nice shot and framed very nicely.
      Good job!
