Lived in Brighton for seven years and only just heard of this place- But realise now I walk home past it every night. I can almost smell the salt and vinegar!

Time to kick the Grubs burger habit anyway.

Are they really better than Bankers on Western Rd?

And they give you 2 haddocks if you ask for large haddock and they haven't got any. And they give free chips to your kids whilst you wait.
And they go out and get a pint from the local pub for you if you eat in although they are byob.
      the best.

Than you for the generous licence Jem. This photo now adords a brief article introducing fish and chips to Japanese students with the following comment. Please feel free to delete all this

The most famous food from my hometown, London, is probably fish and chips. Fish and chips consists of deep-fried fish - usually cod or plaice - in batter, with deep fried potatoes. Britain is an island like Japan and, while not as much as the Japanese, the British eat quite a lot of fish. We usually eat potatoes instead of rice and the most delicious, and fattening, way to eat potatoes is to deep-fry them.

Fish and chips tend to be pretty oily so takeaway fish and chips are served wrapped in paper in to which the oil is absorbed (see photo above). We usually season fish and chips with salt and vinegar, or sometimes tomatoe sauce. Fish and chips are fattening and not very healthy, and they may not look very delicate, but they are a delicious takeaway food on cold British winter nights. I miss them. Make sure you try some fish and chips if you ever visit the UK.
Traditional fish and chip shops in the suburbs are much better than the shops that cater to tourists in the centre of London.

What is a good fish and chip restaurant in London?

Here is a Time Out article, and some recommendations on the Virtual Traveller.
