Ancient Life of the Cosmos

A meteor stands out against the Milky Way over the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in California. Some of these trees living at 10,000 feet in elevation are over 4500 years old. The habitat for these trees is being threatened by global warming.

The annual Perseid Meteor Shower is caused as the earth passes through debris left behind by the Comet Swift-Tuttle. Comet debris has been found to contain up to 70 different amino acids, so comets may play a role in the formation of life on earth, and possibly elsewhere.

See my HD video of this event, from this location, here.

My first video from the Perseid Meteor Shower was featured on Discover Magazine's blog. Many of the comments speculate that the video is somehow faked. I'm flattered. I wish I had the tools, skill and time to fake a natural event of this magnitude!
