Saturday Morning Conversation With Mike

I have seen this man and his sign on several occasions as he tends to frequent this corner near my work. I saw him again as I was driving to the local train yard for some railroad photography. This time I stopped and was determined to start-up a conversation that I hoped would eventually work into an opportunity for a photograph.

I didn't get his name until the very end of our conversation, but I feel that I now have a better understanding of his cynical perspective on life and on his sign. Mike said that I was not good for business; my talking with him prevented potential donors from stopping and giving him what he was asking for on his sign.

After 45 minutes or so, I broke into Mike's diatribe and asked if I could take a photograph of him. After a few questions and stips, he agreed to hide his face behind his sign (my suggestion) and let me photograph him. After this shot, he made it clear that I asked to take "a photograph", not several. We continued to talk and he then allowed me to snap three more. The other three were not very good at all... funny how that works, ya know ??
