Paddling Loon

I had an interesting shoot tonight - I set-up a blind along the edge of a local wetland. I was watching this loon slowly make his way toward me, when 2 really young river otters spied me. The otters were very curious and popped up about 6 or 8 feet in front of my blind (way inside my minimum focusing distance...) and proceeded to bob in the water, crane thier necks and just check me out. After the otters got bored with me, they submerged then popped up and started harassing the loon I had been shooting! The loon wasn`t having any of that and fired up the afterburners and started rocketing across the surface right at me! When the loon stopped, he was still at a focusable distance, but I couldn`t fit him in the viewfinder. Unbelievable. I guess next time, I`ll have to pack a short zoom in my pocket...
