Quadrantid Meteor Shower 2012 - Florida Keys

The Florida Keys sounded really good in January for the Quadrantid Meteor Shower, but Mother Nature had the cold front follow me all the way south. The record low temperature for Key West is 41 degrees, it went down to 46 with winds aroudn 20-30mph near Big Pine Key this particular night on January 3rd / 4th, 2012., The wind chills were in the 30's. Which meant two sweatshirts and a fleece,a mad bomber hat and winter gloves.

The Quadrantids were out in full force this year! Even better than 2011, We counted over 100 meteors and saw them coming down like raindrops around 2:18am, 3am, 4am and from 5am to 6am, it was constant flurry of activity just like 2011.

You can even see the Zodiac Lights illuminating a vibrant triangular shape in the eastern sky well before sunrise. Such a beautiful sight to witness. I'm feel very fortunate to have been able to photograph them from the Florida Keys this year. I won't be forgetting this night for a long time.

It was a great way to bring in 2012!

(There is no editing with the "2012". I wrote that in during the long exposure with a light pen.)
