Large urban sketches happening — on plexi!
This is too much fun not to share. I've been planning this for at least 7 months, but I was too swamped with my business to get to it. I am taking some of my urban sketches and blowing them up big!
But I am not just printing them big, I am redrawing them. Specifically, I am redrawing them on layers of plexiglass at 12" x 36". I am drawing the black lines on one layer. I am painting the colours on a second layer. And finally, I will add a third sheet of plexiglass painted solid white on the bottom. Then I will sandwich all 3 sheets of plexiglass together with glue or screws or clamps, I don't know yet. I am experimenting and having fun.
I have 3 of these pieces going at the moment because they take forever to dry. Then I varnish each layer, which also takes ages to dry. So it's a time-consuming process. I am curious to see the result myself. You can see my one little test piece of the process below in the comments, I did this test sample last year and now I am going to town. I had the plexiglass cut to the right size at a plastics shop — I am not a handy person.
I plan to do 4 more pieces by the end of the summer, so I'll have 7 related pieces ready for a gallery show in the fall.
But the main thing is, and I just realized this today: it's not WHAT YOU DO in your life, it's HOW IT MAKES YOU FEEL as you're doing it.
