The 1788 Gemeinhaus in Historic Bethabara Park
Bethabara is the 1753 site of the First Moravian settlement in North Carolina. Moravians are German Pietists, who trace their origins to the Bohemian Priest, Jan Hus, martyred in 1415.
The Gemeinhaus was not only a church but also a meeting place, school, and minister's house for the settlement. It is the only German colonial church with attached minister's living quarters remaining in the United States.
