Nocturnal Illumination ...Explored...

explore #178 (5/5/14)

epic conditions on a hot spring night lead me to the coast where i was greeted by the milky way and a beautiful blanket of stars above. I stopped at the lighthouse and began composing shots showcasing the lighthouse and the galactic center of the galaxy. I began to realize the light demanded a wider view of the vast beauty before me so i began shooting a series of shots in sequence panning right to left about 150 degrees. this captured a view encompassing the light domes from santa cruz and monterey bay to the south. the gradient of color and light is a stark contrast to the starlight. It was a challenge to measure the proper amount of light with my camera and successfully capture the milky way juxtaposed between 2 major light sources, the other being the lighthouse and grounds in the foreground. I realize i couldve better captured the foreground with a few different techniques which wouldve better balanced the light on the fence, however, the scene does a fine job showcasing the beauty without distracting too much. enjoy!
