IPhone. Hands down. It has an app for that.

Have to go with the iPhone, but I bet that Tricorder has a cup holder...

Tricorder. Because when either one of these items eventually fail electronically, you can still use the tricorder to bash an alien life form's skull!

On this Earth, maybe iPhone. But on other planets, tricorder. Do you think AT&T has service on Vulcan or Romulus?

The tricorder seems to be the favored device in this match-up.

Thank you everyone for your comments and faves!

besides, the TriCorder doesn't have a charger cord that could put your child in the hospital...

Tricorder. It has user-replaceable batteries, it can multi-task, but most importantly . . . it can be tethered to a phaser.

I just checked AT&T's 3G coverage, and it doesn't do very well in the Galaxy. So I guess the tricorder, because there's a map for that. ;-)

One has a defunct OS, the others from a sci fi show in the '60s.

Until the iphone gets an app to scan subspace, I'm gonna have to go with tricorder LOL

I'll go with the tricorder, though the best version is the one used on DS9 and Voyager.

One of the books tried to give a great explanation for the size discrepancy - Star fleet intentionally made things larger and more bulky to facilitate being able to do field repairs without specialized equipment. Sounds good to me.
