Golden Gladiator

Saw my very first Golden Eagle today!

I spent this morning at the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge in Alviso, CA. I took a bird walking tour there yesterday with the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory and decided to head back, as I was blown away by the number of birds we encountered.

As I was heading back to my car, running out of battery power and with only 50 or so images left on my memory card, I noticed a very large bird sitting on top of a power line tower. As I got closer, I realized it was a Golden Eagle! I could not believe my eyes! What incredible luck!

I managed to capture this particular image while it was being harassed by Red-tailed Hawks. Although I have a bunch more images of this incredible bird, this one was the cream of the crop!
