Waterfall (Kakizore Gorge: Ushi no taki)
Kakizore Gorge, Nagano, Japan
I had a great day today with John Shilaw ( www.flickr.com/photos/jshillaw/ ). I left my home about 4:50 a.m. and arrived at John's home about an hour later. Soon we left for almost a two hour drive in John's car. We also went to Atera Gorge nearby. There John and I both had our first sighting of a wild bear, a cub. We were driving along the river and saw this cub running down the road. It turned, looked at us and headed for the river. It was about 10:30 a.m. and we never expected to see a bear, especially with so many people around. We never had a chance for a photo, it all happened so quickly. Plus all our gear was in the back.
There were a lot of steep steps to climb to reach the place where I took this photo. I am really out of shape. John walks and hikes regularly, I don't. I really felt like an old man all day. I really need to exercise. It was so hot and humid although we were in the southern part of the Japanese Central Alps.
I only had three hours sleep last night, so I'm headed for bed now, will catch up tomorrow.
