American Flag at the Vietnam Memorial

    Newer Older

This is a photo of the American flag at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. The American flag is a symbol of freedom, liberty, justice, and opportunity known all over the world.

I took this photo standing almost directly beneath the flag pole and pointing up so as to catch the sun on the other side of the fabric, which is what provides the washed out color. It was also pretty windy out that day, which made for the beautiful ripples and textures in the fabric.

The resulting photo came out very bright/overexposed, super-saturated, and is -- by far -- the single most popular photo in my Flickr photostream.

I'm glad that everyone likes this photo so much -- thanks for visiting and feel free to comment below about what the American flag means to you!

Hey John....beautiful photo. I would love to use it in a site I'm building for an artist friend who has created a painting called "IT IS THE VETERAN" . It will be a commerce site, but we are tithing to four great Veteran organizations. If you would like to see a placeholder site that shows the painting, go to tomgalloart.com
      Would appreciate your consideration. Thanks

Thank you, The American Flag was the prefect touch to a young musician that did the Star Spangled Banner at Incirlk AFB in Turkey for the Relay for Life.

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'

Not an American, this flag represents many things many of them positive, many not.

It's a fantastic photo. I am using it for my Facebook profile picture to celebrate a young fallen police officer who died in the line of duty in Arlington, Texas.
