A Cascade Milky Way

From our camp in Jefferson Park we had a glorious view of the night sky. Just enough time between sunset (its last glow seen on the right) and moonrise (orange glow on the left) to get some good views and photos of the night sky. Also seen here is Mt. Jefferson and two of it's glaciers (Jefferson Park glacier on the left and Russell glacier on the right). To the North the silhouette of Park Butte watches the moon rise. Mighty Jupiter is the crown jewel in the middle of the frame, under the arch of the Milky Way.

Much better Large On Black.

Here's a vertical Milky Way pano.

Edit 12/20/2010: Replaced with a reprocessed version that has better noise reduction, and larger field-of-view.
