First time in Ascona! - Norbert Susemihl is one of the Crescent City’s leading trumpters who was born in Germany in 1956 and moved to the city of jazz when he was barely twenty. His long career has always been split between the United States and Europe, where he has taken part in many festivals, performing and recording alongside young jazzists as well as New Orleans jazz veterans such as Willie Humphrey, Father Al Lewis, and CoCoMo Joe. At Ascona 2012 he presents A Night on Frenchmen Street, a project named after the famous street packed with New Orleans’ main jazz clubs, in collaboration with Erika Lewis, vocals, and Shaye Cohn, piano. After years of experience as street artists, Lewis and Cohn gained visiblity and respectability with performances at various clubs on Frenchmen Street. Shaye Cohn is the daughter of guitarist Joe Cohn and granddaugther of the legendary bluesman Al Cohn.
