Fibre Broadband in Colne Valley

Jason knows how important having superfast broadband is for businesses and homes in the Colne and Holme valleys and Lindley. Poor broadband speeds and connections is a local issue that Jason regularly tackles. BT today briefed MPs on their continuing £2.5bn commercial roll out of fibre broadband, at speeds of 80Mbps, to two thirds of UK premises. The Government has announced plans to expand its broadband programme – updates here

Ofcom figures show that availability of superfast broadband has increased in the UK to 78% in June of this year, ahead of France, Germany, Italy and Spain. UK leads those four EU countries in the highest broadband take-up (83% of households), highest proportion of people who have bought goods online in the last year (77%), highest weekly usage of the internet (87%) and the lowest proportion of people who have never used the internet (8%).

No complacency though as Jason sees superfast broadband provision to businesses and homes in his constituency as a major priority.
