That's neat! I didn't know they had a soda fountain. Thank you for sharing that. (You didn't happen to have a camera with you then, did you? ;)

UPDATE: 11/30/2005 - Well, they are building a new building for the CVS next door and it looks like this will be gone soon, if it isn't already (I haven't been by in a couple of days). Hate to see it go.

Oh, no, Jason, that's horrible! I should go down there and chain myself to it. :P Those bastards...

Take advantage. Go see if you can get those letters.

I'd love to, except...where would I put them?

    6. retrOKC 102 months ago | reply

If I had a living room right now, I would put SHOPPING up on it. I don't know, I would put them all somewhere.

    7. strph 102 months ago | reply

      I would gladly take "shartel"!

You must get them if you can!!! I'd be down there begging for them, then worry about a place to put them! "Shopping Center" would look great in the back of my truck! See:

Hahaha... easy for you to say, Roadsidepictures. I just drive a Honda Civic sedan. :)

Update, 03/20/2006: Well, sad to say that it is gone now. I didn't know when they were starting the demolition, so I missed getting some shots of it, or getting some of those letters. :(

I've kept the Kleenexes nearby in leiu of this notification! A very sad day in shopping center history. This fantasticly designed midcentury structure will live on through your photographs!

I photographed this sign back in late January. I don't have it developed yet though, I saw they were building a new CVS, but I didn't think they were going to tear down the whole plaza. Really too bad, it is. The whole plaza was nice and the one across the street is nice as well.

By the way, the Draper's on 63rd and MacArthur is closing soon as well, and they are in a neat plaza. You wouldn't be able to tell from the road, but the whole plaza used to be arches.

So I'm confused. I was just there in March and the sign appears to be staying (although the stuff around it is under construction):

I am sorry to say that it is completely gone now. Cleared to make room for the new CVS parking lot.

It's such a beautiful font. I hope someone was able to save the lettering.

I wish it was me, but I missed it.

I shot a photo of that very same sign... Got it filed away on a CD somewhere though.

I love those old 60's vintage signs.

I'd love to see your shot when you find it.
