Siamang Ape

Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s vocal residents, Siamang Apes, Puteri and Saudara, have something more to sing about with the arrival of a new baby, born in the early hours of the morning on Friday 15 June 2012, a mere 7 days before this was taken.

The Siamang has a large gular sac (found in both male and female of the species), which is a throat pouch that can be inflated to the size of the Siamang's head, allowing the animal to make loud, resonating calls or songs.
