2010-08261-VN Hanoi Hilton
The Hanoi Hilton was a "must see" for me when I visited Hanoi. It is now open as a museum.
The first 90% of the walking tour was informative; describing the French colonialist's imprisoning Vietnamese people. I saw no reason to disbelieve the descriptions of the horrible conditions and treatment of the prisoners. It must have indeed been a terrible place during those times.
Then came the section covering America's involvement in the war. The description entitled "Some Pictures and Objects of United States Pilots in Hoa Lo Prison" stated "Vietnamese government had created the best living conditions to US pilots for they had a stable life during their temporary detention period." That section was pure propaganda, showing US pilots singing Christmas carols, playing chess, gardening, etc.
