Horseshoe Bend of Colorado River – Page Arizona

My choice for the competition ( North Shore Challenge 2012 ) . I have re - done completely my earlier image of the bend. They look very similar but this one is partly vertorama where the sky is from different frame and the bend from different. Both shot very closely as even my 12-24 Sigma was not wide enough. At the end I have achieved the format that I was looking for.

BTW , last image was called “ The Bend … Darwin Awards Moment “

Truly it is .... the overlook is 4,200 feet above sea level and the Colorado River is at 3,200 feet above sea level making it a breathtaking 1,000 foot drop. One thing that this images is not showing is the wind , being so close to sunset , there was a huge mass of air rushing upwards from the river. I did feel sandblasted , standing inches away from the edge of the cliff it's scary when it blows , it's terrifying … when it suddenly stops.
