Stencil

A simple way of creating "Banksy" style images in software. This was completely created in Gimp using only two layers. No doubt the same technique can be used with Photoshop or other photo processing software.

It uses Stone Texture for the background.

The stencilled layer started out as a crop from a photo. This was turned into a "photocopy-style" image using Colours > Threshold. I then made the background transparent using Layers > Transparency > Colour to Alpha...

The opacity mode of the stencilled layer is then set to "Overlay". You can also get good results from "grain merge".
