With Lumps On
Another of MrW's money making schemes. Illegally caught in Australian waters (where they are protected) these terpang were then transported to Java and into the prison. Here MrW would lay them out every day in the sun to complete their drying. In this photo they are on top of the entrance awning where he had his pot plants. At night he'd have his servant box them all up and keep them in the corridor outside my room. Not to put too fine a point on it, they stunk. Eventually, he was forced by some of the more influential residents on our floor, to sun them all on the basketball court in front of the church. After a couple of weeks, he shipped them all off to somewhere in China. As his were just another set of hands that they passed through, I can't see how it could have been a very profitable venture for him.
I suspect that it was the interest some of the cats showed in the terpang as they were drying on the basketball court that caused MrW to decide to rid the prison of cats in general. Although I can't actually believe that any cat, no matter how hungry it was, would actually eat any.
