James Whorriskey (Delbert Jackson)
We Shall not Be Moved !
Well not today anyway !!!
Tina McLaughlin who made the news after staging a sit -in in her Nissan Micra when employees from DVA/NCP showed up outside her Derry/Londonderry home to impound it.
The vehicle, which displays a valid tax disc, had been clamped on Bridge Street and was to be removed for non-payment of parking fines.
Tina explained that she parks her car on a section of pavement beside her house (see inset) as she has no other option, - there are pillars and double yellow lines to the front of her house and a doctor's car park to the side.
Although the car does not obstruct the entrance nor prevent pedestrians from using the footpath - Parking attendants continually ticket it claiming that it is parked illegally.
Tina has refused to pay the mountain of tickets which have built up, claiming that there is simply nowhere else that she can park - There is a long waiting list for dedicated resident parking, and leaving the car some distance down the street has resulted in wing mirrors being constantly kicked off. (My wife once worked in the local M&S and had human crap smeared on her window when she parked at the same place)
When I arrived, Tina had left her car as NCP had knocked off for the day. However she fears that her car will be lifted today (Friday) as she will be unable to sit in it as she has to attend a wedding.
Tina is due to join me on the telephone to Drive 105.3FM (streaming worldwide @ www.drive105.co.uk) just after noon today to give a brief update.
I'll also be joined by Bogside community worker Charles Lamberton, Sinn Fein's Elisha McLaughlin (Local Policing Board Chair) and PSNI acting chief Inspector John Burrows to discuss claims that local Republicans are being stopped and searched in the presence of their children.
