SAPA, Vietnam

Take this shot after 3-4 hours of "difficult" trekking to one of remote SAPA villages. For me this shot is great reward for such tiring journey.

What a beautiful looking place - for those just finding this image please ensure you look at the large size. The focus out into the distance is very well achieved and I'm also quite impressed that you managed to get this shot with no people in it - very cool !

It also looks like you got your reward from the difficult trek. This is such a wonderful image and it portrays the look and feel of Vietnam so well.

The first thing that struck meabout this shot is the sense of tranquility . I thing the beautiful soft possibly evening light and the soft green tones of the grass create this feeling of tranquility. Composition wise this photo is spot on. The house is perfectly positioned on the top left power point and the gentle steps of the field lead the eye to the house. the slightly subdued background deail is excellent with a nice tonal range in the hills. The texture in the foreground grass in interesting too. Well done. this shot was worth the trek.

Atmosphere: Check (you have got to love the soft evening light and the evening mist).

Composition: Check (you've nailed it pretty darn well with the house placed nicely to the right and the bamboo plant at the right. Also, the small stream winding through the background just aids the mood of the picture.

Colour: Warm. Soft. Evening colours. Everything has a nice yellow orangey tinge to it, which makes you just wish you were there standing and soaking in the scene.

... Today's group is maddening. I'm so hard pressed to find flaws in the five pictures I'm critiquing...

i like the misty background of the picture, the light also is great, you took this at an excellent moment. i like special angles, here i'm sure that you could have taken even a better picture from another perspective, i think it would look great if you would have taken it from the view of the grass, it would have given the photo something more special. but what i like is the 3D-effect of the rice-terraces, the shadows are great. the different nuances of green and yellow give the picture a warm touch, i like them.

Thanks for all the comments, additional info,
    1. The photo is taken on early morning 7:00 am local time. I did spend over night home stay there, and wake up early to catch Sun rise..
    2. The grass you saw is actually paddy rice terrace, and it virtually cover the whole SAPA valley.
    3. The place will be more beautiful in middle of Oct, where all paddy rice turn golden yellow color, and people start harvesting the paddy. So start book a flight to Vietnam ASAP.. haha
