Busy bicycling bridge

Each bridge sidewalk has two-way walking, and one-way biking traffic.

The entire length of the road deck is open metal grate, so I don't think any bike riders will want to ride in the main lanes.

Nice shot. I've been to Portland a couple of time but don't think I ever crossed this one.

That's looking west on the eastbound side of the Hawthorne. Actually pretty light traffic for that bridge. It's crazy at rush hour and super sketch with the drop off. The Morrison added separate bike lanes which helps, but when the new transit-ped-bike-only bridge is built, thngs will be much nicer.

I took this right after rush hour, so I guess most people crossed it already. This is on a walking tour of several neighborhoods I took with a fellow Flickrer.

I also made a video of this bridge, here on Vimeo.

right on, you know the deal then. i luckily don't have to take that bridge often. it's just fine when the traffic is light. i tend to avoid the higher traffic bike routes in the city at rush hour, because other cyclists annoy me! though still better than car traffic, and way way way better than distracted drivers. the main route to my neighborhood is totally crazy at rush (Vancouver/Williams) and i stick to a big hill where very few people go.

for more info on the project coming to SE Portland, just a bit south of the Hawthorne, check out the grant application vid here: www.vimeo.com/14435701

I stayed with someone who lived on NE Williams. I loved taking Williams home at night and then Vancouver south in the morning. Great pair of biking streets.

My walking tour guide told me about one of the projects in the Southeast Corridor project (Clinton) but I didn't know that there was a cohesive plan containing it.
