Ae'o Hawaiian Stilt Fishing- James Brennan Molokai Hawaii

The Hawaiian Stilt or Ae'O, is a subspecies of the Black-necked Stilt of North America, South America and the Galapagos Islands. It is a true native of Hawaii. A survey conducted in 1982 found fewer than 700 birds in existence. Kanaha Pond on Maui and several other refuges on other islands are of critical importance to the survival of this species. Sighting one of these fascinating birds poised, on his long (very long!) delicate legs is a pleasure. Photo by James Brennan Molokai Hawaii
