manos de trabajo

    Newer Older

Rural Mexican women baking tortillas over a portable oven.

Corn tortillas are included with almost every meal in Mexico. The process in which they are made is second nature to many of the people who live in the rural areas.

I find this image interesting because it is a simple task, but the nature of the light gives the scene a symbolic, almost religious context.

If a creative photographer breaks all of the 'rules' consciously (key word that - informed choice rather than blissful ignorance) then we should acknowledge that s/he is using photographic devices in unconventional ways to achieve a more powerful expression. They are more articulate in using the 'language' of photography. Nicely done here. Congrats!

Amazing atmosphere, it's warm and there's also a documentary feel.

Beautiful! The thing she is cooking on is called a Comal, essential to Mexican homes.
