Reputedly the 'wettest town in Iceland" which was true both times we passed through it, Vik í Mýrdal (otherwise known as Vik) is about a 4 hour drive (180km) from Reykjavik.
It is most famous for its black beaches and the black basalt columns which emerge from the ocean.
At the guesthouse we stayed in in Reykjavik, our host advised us to "Keep driving, there's nothing in Vik apart from black sand!".
But who doesn't want to see black sand?!
