Kingston University Foundation Application
From an early age it was apparent that my strengths lay in art/design due to my constant enthusiasm for drawing/painting and my appreciation of colour, shape, light and space. Throughout the years, I have refined my creative skills and have developed a strong fascination within bold, graphic and abstract art. Since attending 6th form college, the A level art course has ‘freed’ up my style of work and increased my confidence and ability as a whole.

The Bauhaus movement, Russian constructivism and the Swiss international graphic style are a source of massive inspiration for my work with the utilization of sharp edges, bold shape, colour and precision. I have also always had a passion for film/cinema and have developed a deep admiration for a whole array of films. A few favorites of mine include; ‘American Beauty’, ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’, ‘The Lives of Others’ and the surreal animations of Jan Svankmajer.

My devotion to both art and cinema has led me in recent years to create an extensive portfolio of alternative film posters, inspired by artists such as Saul Bass, Tom Eckersley and Olly Moss - using an abstract and bold graphic style. A few of my best works have gone viral and ‘shortlist’ magazine included my ‘Pulp Fiction’ poster in there ‘30 Coolest Alternative Movie Posters Ever’. I have also been successful in selling my graphic posters online as well as getting commissions here and there for my work.

I also feel that music is a major part of my life, and I have a strong connection with bands/acts such as; Joy Division, Bonobo, Boards of Canada and Jimi Hendrix. My future plans include developing my artistic abilities further on foundation course, focusing in on graphic and abstract art, and then going on to do a degree in graphic art.
