LL Bean Christmas Eve 2011

    Newer Older

I have shopped at LL Bean every year on Christmas Eve since 1946 when I was three years old and my parents took me. It was an annual shopping visit every Christmas (except when I was in Vietnam) and I continued that tradition with my own kids. I still have my original LL Bean Hunting Boots (leather top rubbers) that I bought in 1957.

Nice!! Jack this brings back a lot of memories, My wife and I would always stop here on our way to Skowhegan to see family in the 90's.

Thanks Lanny. Glad I could bring back some memories for you. The store has changed a lot since the 90s and other buildings have been added. And there are no locks on the doors cause they never close, so you could stop in any time night or day.

Jack, I haven't been to Freeport and Bean's in sometime, but I do buy from them once or twice ayer by catalog. Their chamois cloth and washed denim shirts can't be beat. So, how are things down Maine these days?

Depends on where in Maine you go. Rural Maine hasn't changed much. Cities are still trying hard to stay alive. Work is difficult to find. Logging, farming, trucking, lobstering and working in the mills pretty much the mainstay like it was 50 years ago.

Just think...if you have photo's of LL Bean during Christmas Time from 1946 to 2011...you can make postcards and string them up around the holiday. This is a beautiful pic, and love the snow coming down.

I don't have any other pictures, but I did have all the annual christmas catalogs that I saved over the years until my mother threw them out some years ago. I miss the covers that they used to do, pretty boring now.
