...she's gonna hate me for this shot. =)
Justifying the 4:30am wake-up mentioned earlier, we caught the 7:30 ferry from Wakkanai (稚内) to Rebun island (礼文). But what started as a quiet and peaceful morning sailing turned for the worst, very fast...
This picture was taken on deck as we were just leaving the terminal. Once we got out to open ocean, the winds picked up, the waves got choppy, and the ferry started violently bobbing from side to side. -But here's the kicker: that morning, the ferry happened to be full with several bus-loads of elderly Japanese weekend-tourists. Within thirty minutes of leaving Wakkanai, the carnage began...
Old people fighting for the bathrooms, old people curled up on the floor, old people puking on the decks, in the sinks, in the corners. It was like an undigested war zone and it smelled baaad!!!
Scot & Misha slept through the whole damn thing, and I spent the ferry trip running back and forth, deeking-out old people for the last remaining complementary pukie-bags for Cathy, as she had unfortunately also succumbed to the motion sickness.
A veeeery interesting 2 hours of my life.
