Eastern bluebird

    Newer Older

One of the nestboxes in the Arboretum actually has a bluebird. Most of the bluebird boxes I've seen are colonized by tree swallows.

You are really having fun with that lens. Best shot so far!
Keep going. How about a pileated woodpecker? Or
      maybe an indigo bunting?

      Hey, thanks, guys.

@steeena: The sky was overcast, so I didn't have to fight excessive contrast. Blue in birds isn't a pigment. It's an interference effect from the fine structure of the feathers. So it can look very different depending on the light. I was especially lucky with the light. And with the fact that even though there were several other people in the area, the bird wasn't very shy.

@longrieg: If I get lucky enough to come across those birds, I'll try. But it's always just luck what happens to show itself when I'm around.
