Basilica Cattedrale Patriarcale di San Marco
St. Mark's Basilica was originally a private chapel for the Venetian Doge. The interior and exterior of the basilica have both changed dramatically since the start of construction in 1063. Primarily Byzantine and Gothic in style, the Basilica was officially completed in 1617 just over 500 years after its consecration.
In 1807 the Basilica became a cathedral when it became the seat of the Venetian Roman Catholic Archdiocese.
