    Marine Corps Gen. John R. Allen, commander of NATO and International Security Assistance Force troops in Afghanistan, visited military and civilian personnel assigned to Regional Command-Southwest, Helmand province, Aug. 25. Allen received operational and intelligence briefings during his visits to Forward Operating Base Shawqat and Operating Post Strega, met with an Afghan deputy chief of police and an Afghan Local Police commander, and thanked U.S., British and Afghan forces for their service and sacrifice. ISAF is a key component of the international community's engagement in Afghanistan, assisting Afghan authorities in providing security and stability while creating the conditions for reconstruction development.
