View from my grand daughter's backyard balcony
This cell phone photo was taken by my grand daughter, Desiree, just before her family evacuated their home in Herriman, UT last Friday (June 29), grabbing their computers and their neighbor's pets as they fled! This fire is only two blocks away. They and their home are safe. They were allowed to return to their home last night. However, four homes in the neighborhood were destroyed despite the heroic efforts of the city, county, and state fire fighters. This Rose Crest Fire is the second wild fire to ravish their town in two years.
Although Utah's wildfires have not been as devastating as Colorado's, both states have suffered already from hot, dry conditions this June. Here is a 21-picture photo story, mainly of the Colorado Springs and Herriman, Utah wildfire devastation.
(BTW, Desiree's photo was picked up by one of the local news stations, so now she is officially a published "photo-journalist" :)
