Pointing Heavenward

A light-painted 'sand pipe' formation (also known as a sedimentary pipe) in the Kodachrome Basin State Park, under a starry night sky and the northern end of the Milky Way. (BTW, according to astroyeti, the galaxy just above and to the right of the sand pipe is the Great Andromeda Galaxy.) See size comparison below of this sand pipe.

Kodachrome Basin is right next to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

See the awe-inspiring NightScape VIDEO – with one Milky Way after another!

Canon 5D M2

15mm fisheye

30" f2.8 ISO 6400

2-million candle power incandescent (reflected and scrimmed for control -- I rarely "paint". Instead, I often used strategically placed and controlled lights, like you would in a studio.)
