Typical American Home

Typical Cape cod style house, with a white picket fence in American suburbia. It looks like the intro into the 1950s-60s TV series "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" or "My Three Sons". That's exactly what I wanted to create! This image and it's vertical view have been two of my best-selling stock photos of all time. It has the 'model home' look, making it suitable for all kinds of real estate, mortgage, and home owners insurance brochures, etc. This photo has even appeared on a U.S. Postal Service stamp!

Stock Photo Tips: One key to success in stock is to find out what resonates with the majority of your buying audience. In other words, what does the public see as the most common description or example on a particular subject? You need to research this, or the images you shoot will not have "mass appeal". Images that have mass appeal are "conceptual icons", and they will sell over and over again for many years, giving you a long-term residual income.

Background: I earn the majority of my income from stock photography. I've written dozens of articles on stock photography, given lectures internationally, and directed a stock photo agency for 25 years.
