In the period over the famine decade 1841-1850,1.8 million people emigrated overseas from Ireland of those

 

70% went to U.S.A.

28% went to Canada

2% went to Australia

 

Most people paid their own fares to make the trip although prehaps 3% had their fares paid by their Landlords.

 

The cheapest fares where to Canada around 55 shillings while a fare to the USA cost between 70 shillings and £5 (100shillings)

 

To-days exchange rates £1 =20 shillings = $1.80

 

I had to use an imageing programme to cover up parts that where very crudely vandalised, sorry about that.
