Exploring Kushiro Wetlands by kayak, Hokkaido

Some people kayak/canoe for the entire 154km of Kushiro River, but for us 10km was enough hard work! We did not see any humans but saw a lot of wildlife.

Kushiro Wetlands is a national park located in the east of the island of Hokkaido, Japan. The park is known for its wetlands ecosystems. Kushiro-shitsugen (Kushiro Wetlands or Kushiro Swamp, Marshland) covers an area of 268.61 square kilometres (103.71 sq mi) which is the largest wetland in Japan. Access is strictly limited and the landscape, most typical of Hokkaido, has been preserved.
