I have to shoot WHAT? - Week 21

    Newer Older

    Low point of view

Anyone who's seen any of my horse show photos knows that I normally frame the shots up level and I'm either standing on the ground or I'm up in the stands somewhere shooting. Well, this week's challenge got me to be a little more creative and convinced me to step outside the box.

During the grand prix this weekend, I placed my other camera and wide angle lens down near this jump. After the riders had passed all the other jumps that I was shooting normally, I ran down to this jump and grabbed my camera. I sat down (behind the ring fence and hidden behind a trash can so as not to spook the horses) and fired away. This was by far my favorite shot. I will definitely try this again at future shows if the jumps allow for it.

One caveat though - the horse that jumped this just before this one actually threw a shoe coming off this jump. That probably would have hurt. I highly suggest finding a nice protected place to shoot if you're ever going to try something like this!

Great timing and some vibrant colours here Andy. Love the low POV.

Yeah, a horseshoe beaning you in the side of the head would make for a ruined day... haha

Great placement of the horse and rider in the frame. worse...it may have hit the camera.

Nicely done, using low POV here made for a more interesting capture.
