In honor of Martin getting an iPad (finally!), I decided to do another portrait of him. He's done like 5 or 6 of me, so it's only fair.
A funny story about Martin:
Shortly after joining Julia Kay's Portrait Party in October of 2010, Martin had commented on my work. I did a portrait of him because I really had appreciated his nice comments. After this brief exchange, I decided to flip through Martin's extensive portfolio. One of my favorites, which instantly jumped out at me, out of the literally thousands of pieces that Martin has posted, was a line drawing of a Starbucks coffeehouse at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport (I'm from Detroit-Martin is from Oxford, England)
When I asked Martin what he was doing in Detroit, he told me that he had run the arts program at a camp in Northern Michigan, called camp Walden, for several years.
After thinking about it, I realized that I was not only a camper when Martin first became a counselor, but also a fellow counselor, when Martin was in charge of the art program, many years later, at the very same Camp!!!
We had connected 20 years later via the internet, on Julia Kay's Portrait Party.
When we became friends on Facebook subsequently, it became apparent that we had many of the same friends in the Detroit area.
Here is Martins extensive collection of work which spans 30 years:
