Under the order of Emperor Go-Shirakawa, Taira no Kiyomori built the Rengeôin, a buddhist temple better known as Sanjûsangendô (and even better as The Temple of One Thousand Buddhas), which was ended in 1164. This is the East Gate of the temple. Laugh belongs to Mexican writer Sergio Pitol, who came to Japan, gave the opening lecture at the Instituto Cervantes in Tokyo and then visited the ancient capital.
