1958 NORTH SYDNEY
Coupled "O" tram cars on the bridge over Bradfield Highway, North Sydney, approaching Milson's Point. Taken from Greenway 309 Flats complex, Officially Opening on 28 March, 1954. (Photographer and accurate date to be determined. possibly a picture by the late John Alfred.-the author of "Across the Bridge".)
The train in the picture appears to be set F39. A complete train of Tulloch cars. This set of cars had experimental automatic door equipment fitted in the early 1950's. Why I suspect its set F39, all the doors are closed. Even on a cold day you generally would have had the odd door open. Even though F39 was a success, the door mechanisms were removed & the cars then reverted to manual door operation. (Comments received are from Dunedoo and others are acknowledged with thanks).
