Lobey Dosser Returns

The famous statue get reinstated in Glasgow's West end.

 

The statue of Lobey Dosser returns to Woodlands Road after a year’s absence. The famous statue, dedicated to comic-strip writer William “Bud” Neill, features Neil’s legendary comic strip hero riding on his trusty steed “El Fideldo” (Elfie), his resourceful two-legged horse and with his adversary, the villain “Rank Bajin,” sitting handcuffed behind. The comic strip which appeared in the Herald and Evening Times newspapers and ran in the 1940-50s , saw a second run in the 1980s and was a favourite amongst Glaswegians as it was written in the local dialect known as “The Patter” and had many comic parallels to Glasgow place names and legends.
