    Schnookie's been canning up a storm this week and last. The line-up here is peaches in vanilla syrup, pickled okra, corn salsa, pickled beets, pickled peppers, and spicy stone fruit jam. Our basement is starting to make us look like a survivalist's bunker. Or rather, a bunker belonging to a member of the Pickles and Jam Enthusiasts' Survivalist Club.

      oh wow! i am very impressed. such a wide variety of stuff here, and they all look and sound delicious! plus, you are all set for the apocalypse. :D (and the shady back deck is the perfect location for capturing all the vibrant colors in these jars.)

      I keep telling myself that this is the last of the random stuff, and I'm just doing tomatoes now. And then, when tomato season is over, I'm going to nap a lot. But then along comes a tasty beet recipe, or the hot peppers pile up, or salsa beckons, and I lose all self control. I... have a problem. :P

      This is a very beautiful shot. I love the contrast of colors against the green leafy background and the idea that each color represents and is somthing so delicious!! You have certainly had a fun and productive summer.

      Oh that's so pretty! I can't get over the pickled peppers floating in something perfectly clear-you don't often see that. Hmm...not sure I'd want to survive in a post-apocalyptic scenario on condiments alone. Though if you've survived I suppose you can't afford to be picky.

      I can't take any credit for the picture, but I'll say "thanks" for liking the colors! :D

      The pickled peppers wigged me out at first, but then the lady at the farmstand here excitedly showed me some jars of her own, and they were much the same. So I'm not completely distrustful of them now. And yeah, it won't be much of a diet at our house, post-apocalypse. Do I need to start canning meat?

      I've never had pickled okra before, but it seemed too fun not to make some. Here's hoping I end up liking it! :D
