Abandonded Peach Springs Gas Station

Mike and I got rained out on a trip to Flagstaff, so we decided to visit the Grand Canyon Caverns. We were feeling a little adventurous when we left, so instead of returning to Flagstaff we kept going west through Seligman and Peach Springs.

We'd never been to Peach Springs, but it sounded nice enough and we had a theory that Radiator Springs (the fictional Route 66 setting of Disney's movie, Cars) was based on this place. I think we were partially right. Seligman looked just like Radiator Springs, but it's name just isn't movie material. Peach Springs on the other hand....

Anyway, this photo shows the state of the whole town. From the main road through the town, I couldn't find any signs of life. It was a true ghost town full of tumbleweeds and blowing dust. We stopped only long enough to take a picture of this interesting building. The place felt sinister and haunted! The landscape around it was beautiful but hushed and seemingly standing still.
