Shamsi and Little Hawa

A tender scene takes place between mother Shamsi and daughter Hawa. Shamsi is a Bantu refugee from Somalia who has a gift of holding onto the beautiful traditions of her homeland, while embracing new opportunities in Salt Lake Cit, Utah. Shamsi was the first of the mothers we work with to get a job. Many of her contemporaries have been touched by her bravery and are also taking that step forward. Traditionally a woman working outside the home is looked down on. She is setting an example to not only other African refugees in the community, but to her own beautiful daughter.
